"Freeing a Captured Bird" is a *ukiyo-e* woodblock print by Suzuki Harunobu, one of the most renowned artists of the *Genroku* era. Created between 1769 and 1770, the print depicts three women in elegant *kimono* engaged in a moment of leisure. One woman, standing before a pine tree, prepares to release a bird from its cage, suggesting themes of freedom and compassion. This work is a beautiful example of Harunobu's mastery of color and composition, capturing the grace and beauty of everyday life in Edo-period Japan. The print, now in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago, measures 28.5 × 21.1 cm.
