This linen 'Vingerdoek' or finger cloth with its geometric design was made by Chris Lebeau. The limited palette of grays and whites really emphasizes the design, giving it an almost architectural feel. I’m really drawn to the way Lebeau balances the graphic impact with the soft, tactile quality of the linen. You can almost feel the texture of the fabric and imagine the subtle variations in the dye. I like how the individual marks - dots, lines, squares - repeat and build up into a larger pattern, reminiscent of weaving or stitching. The circles are so perfect, and the way they break up the lines feels like a visual game. Looking at the whole cloth, I’m reminded of Anni Albers’ textile works and her Bauhausian commitment to functional art, though Lebeau’s design is more playful and less severe. The repetition and subtle variations make me think about how we find meaning and order in the everyday. Ultimately, this piece really celebrates the beauty of process and the endless possibilities of simple forms.
