Editor: This is "Shap Fells," an etching by Frank Short. The subdued palette really establishes a somber mood. What do you see in this landscape? Curator: The prevailing clouds symbolize transition. Notice how Short positions them directly above the fells. It’s as if the landscape is in dialogue with the heavens. Editor: I didn't catch that at first! So, this image speaks to cultural memory. But, what does it tell us? Curator: Landscapes become imbued with stories over time. Short reminds us that even in nature, we find echoes of our own human narratives. Editor: Fascinating. I'll never look at landscape art the same way again. Curator: Indeed, images are never just what they seem.
