Jan Brueghel the Elder painted “Adoration of Jesus” using oil paints and his fine skills. The stable where the holy family is shown looks very similar to a typical farmhouse in Flanders at the time. The painting style gives us a look into the life and times of the working class. The use of raw materials in their homes tells us about their daily lives. Brueghel was not just showing a religious scene. He was showing the reality of the majority of people in his country. Brueghel painted with great care and showed much detail. The rough look of the farmhouse and the clothes of the people around. The setting reminds us that religious stories happened in a world with labor, inequality, and a mix of materials. By noticing these details, we understand how art goes beyond just beauty, and how it shows the daily struggles and triumphs of the human experience.
