Wang Xinfu made this painting of crab apple blossoms using what looks like thick daubs of oil paint. It's like he’s wrestling with the paint, not trying to make a perfect picture, but trying to show us how paint itself can be like a garden. The surface is built up with these chunky strokes, and you can almost feel the weight of the paint. Look at the way the colors mix and blend, especially in the yellow and orange areas. It's not just about the colors themselves, but how they sit together, creating depth and movement. There’s this one spot, near the top left, where the colors swirl together. It’s a little chaotic, a little messy, but that’s what makes it so alive. This reminds me of some of Joan Mitchell’s flower paintings, where the subject becomes an excuse for wild, gestural abstraction. It’s like Wang Xinfu is saying, "Here’s a painting, but it’s also a record of the joy and struggle of making it."
