"Assembling for a Demonstration" was captured by Alexander Rodchenko, and it's a photograph that messes with your head a little. I imagine Rodchenko up high, maybe hanging out of a window, finding this incredible angle looking down. There are crowds gathering in this courtyard, right? But the view—it's like nothing’s quite sure of itself, which is a feeling I can relate to. How do you decide where to stand? How do you know where to look? I love how the image kind of denies you a stable position. The way the figures seem to float in the grey expanse makes me think about other artists that played with angles and viewpoints, like some of the constructivists. It feels like a part of an ongoing conversation. What does it mean to see something? Is it really about what it is, or is it more about how you're looking at it?
