Miep de Feijter made this drawing of a crafting boy with ink on paper. It's all about the line here, the controlled scratchiness of it, and how it can fill a space. I love the way she’s used hatching to create the shadows and textures; it feels both precise and loose at the same time, like she's really enjoying the process. And notice how the little dots on his pajamas create this lively surface? The lost slipper beneath the chair is a little accent, a reminder that he is seated in an active and messy space. It gives the piece a feeling of spontaneity. You know who this reminds me of? Saul Steinberg. His drawings also find so much with so little, turning the ordinary into something special. Like his, de Feijter’s art invites us to see the world with fresh eyes, reminding us that art is not about perfect representation but about capturing the essence of a moment.
