This photograph, "Aug 1950 Making soap bubbles," made by an anonymous artist shows a man, maybe even the artist, making soap bubbles. I am curious as to what this guy was thinking when he made this image. Was he trying to catch something ephemeral, something just out of reach? He holds a loop with a single bubble emerging, his expression unreadable. The tones are grey and grainy; the scene is flat. What is the relationship between the bubbles and the flat rooftop stretching behind him? I like the way the anonymous artist plays with the relationship between something so light and fleeting, like a soap bubble and a solid surface. Maybe he was trying to say something about the nature of reality, how solid and fragile coexist, always influencing each other. Like many images, this photograph provides a moment to pause and consider life's contrasts.
