Ellsworth Kelly created this "Tablet #105" from the simple arrangement of cut paper and a found printed card. The recurring geometric forms invite us to delve into the language of abstraction. These shapes, at first glance, might seem purely formal. Yet, the square within a square speaks volumes. Think of the ancient Roman "castrum," a military camp, rigidly organized with its central square. Or perhaps, a window, framing and containing a view, or a mandala, the square within a circle used as a spiritual tool. Note the phrase "We Want" on the right. It adds a layer of social and political awareness. This is a modern-day echo of humanity's eternal desire for change and societal evolution. It is a primal expression of need and aspiration. Kelly's composition speaks to the cyclical nature of symbols—how they resurface, evolve, and take on new meanings.
