Constantin Flondor’s “Optical-Dynamic Study” presents a black and white geometric composition which at first appears to be a simple abstraction, but on closer inspection, the artist has engaged with the complex interplay between perception and structure. The artwork is structured around dynamic lines and geometric shapes. The contrasting black and white hues create a visual tension, which is further activated through the structured arrangement of lines to suggest movement and depth. We see the application of Gestalt principles, where the human eye seeks to organize visual information into cohesive shapes. Flondor challenges our perception, requiring active engagement to resolve the image into a coherent whole. The very structure of the work acts as a semiotic device. Each element of the composition is a sign contributing to a more complex meaning. This artwork reflects a formalist exploration of art's intrinsic elements but also touches on broader philosophical questions about how we perceive and interpret the world around us.
