Yuschav Arly, a 20th-century artist, created this digital illustration, playing with flatness and depth. The work uses the uniform appearance of digital rendering. The artist's hand is less obvious, with clean lines and flat colors. The perfection of the medium contrasts with the implied narrative, in which the woman seems to be stranded in a desert landscape, adorned with jewelry in a scene reminiscent of a fashion advertisement. Note the bracelets resembling snakes wrapped around her wrists, subtly questioning the role of jewelry, traditionally handcrafted objects. Arly’s style is illustrative and graphic and, though made with digital software, recalls the aesthetic of the early Pop Art movement, with the use of bold, clean lines, bright colours, and flat shapes. Considering the precision of the final image and the ease of digital alteration, one questions the traditional skill of an artist. Instead, we celebrate conceptual design.
