Arthur Pinajian made this untitled landscape in Woodstock using ink on paper. You can really imagine him making this, can’t you? The ink is fluid and calligraphic, quickly mapping out the rhythm of the place he found himself in. I wonder if he paused, looked up at the trees, and then put the ink to paper again, picking up the conversation where he left off. Each line feels so urgent, capturing a fleeting impression. It reminds me of Cy Twombly's gestural abstraction, but with a wilder, more untamed energy. Look at the way the ink pools in some areas, creating darker accents that give depth to the composition. And the white of the paper isn’t just empty space, it's like a breath, or a pause for air. All painters look at and learn from each other. We’re all trying to find new ways to express ourselves, to capture something real and true.
