Carles Delclaux Is made "Els dies de la dona" as a large-scale woven tapestry. The image swims between abstraction and figuration—a red figure looms out of warm tones of orange and yellow that feel volcanic and energetic. I like to imagine how it feels to weave a thing like this, the back and forth, the push and pull of the loom, the quiet repetitive movements punctuated by moments of decision and change. Does the animal-like figure emerge slowly? What does it mean? Is it a god, a guardian, a spirit? The black and white stripes on the bottom create an interesting tension with the rest of the design. For me, the piece is interesting in its openness and ambiguity. I like that Delclaux Is doesn't give us all the answers but instead leaves space for our own interpretations and emotional responses. It reminds me that artists are always in conversation with one another, inspiring new ways of seeing and thinking about the world through art.
