Lajos Kassak made "Red Rug" using collage, and it’s the layering of these materials that catches my eye. It’s a playful, almost architectural construction. I love how the textures create a sense of depth and invite you to touch. The titular red rug itself looks so thick and inviting, almost like a velvet curtain. There’s a tension between flatness and volume, abstraction and representation. The black stripes, meticulously arranged, create a rhythmic pattern, but the rug gives us something tactile and immediate. Thinking about art as a dialogue, I see echoes of Kurt Schwitters in Kassak’s playful use of found materials, but there is something uniquely his own here, a distinct voice adding to the ongoing conversation of art. It’s a reminder that art is always about questioning, exploring, and leaving room for the unexpected.
