George Joji Miyasaki made this abstract print called Composition 25 using lithography, but it's difficult to pin down exactly when. Look at how he approaches mark-making here. The textures are built up through layers, almost like a painter building up glazes. There's something about the physicality of the medium that speaks to me. It’s not just about the image, but the process. See how the colors blend and bleed into each other. The red shape that floats in the mid-ground almost looks like a memory, hovering between the blue and grey. The color palette is muted; there are blues, grays, and reds, creating a sense of harmony and balance. The way Miyasaki plays with texture reminds me a little of Diebenkorn, especially his Ocean Park series. It’s all about the subtle shifts in tone and the way the colors interact with each other. Art is just an ongoing conversation, right?
