"Study for The Golden Age" (1862) is a preparatory drawing by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres, the famed French Neoclassical artist. It is a study for his later painting of the same name, now housed at the Musée Condé in Chantilly, France. This preparatory work demonstrates Ingres’s meticulous attention to detail and his interest in creating ideal forms. The drawing showcases Ingres’s mastery of line and his interest in classical mythology. The figures’ poses are carefully studied, revealing Ingres’s thoughtful approach to composition, as well as his knowledge of the human form. The drawing is now at the Fogg Museum at Harvard University.
