Daan Lemaire made this watercolour simply titled, Yellow & Green, in no particular year. Isn't that freeing? It's like they wanted us to focus on the here and now, the pure process of seeing and feeling. I love how the colours explode across the page, bleeding into each other. The yellow isn't just yellow; it’s got hints of orange, like a sunset fighting its way through a hazy sky. And the greens, they’re not uniform either, some areas are bright and almost acidic, others more subdued, earthy. The way the paint splatters outwards makes me think of a big bang, or the ripple effect after you've dropped a pebble into a pond. You see a similar energy in the watercolours of Joan Mitchell, that same sense of letting the medium do its thing. Ultimately this piece isn't about perfection; it's about embracing the happy accidents, the unpredictable nature of art and of life.
