Vasile Kazar made this painting, "Presentation at the Old Court", with watercolor and ink, using a loose, expressive style. I love how the washes of color create depth, and the ink lines add a sense of movement and energy. The paint is thin and translucent, allowing the white of the paper to show through, creating a luminous effect. Look at the figures, they are rendered with a few quick strokes. You can almost feel Kazar's hand moving across the paper. It reminds me of some of Philip Guston's later works, where he embraced a more cartoonish and expressive style. Both artists seem to be interested in exploring the possibilities of paint and line, and in creating images that are both playful and profound. Art is not about perfection, it's about exploration and discovery.
