Pavlo Makov made "Г" with paint on canvas, and I can only imagine the kind of back-and-forth that went into it. It feels like the artist is thinking through architectural form, maybe a feeling of claustrophobia. The black paint is really worked into the canvas; you can feel the gesture there. It’s almost like he's pushing the buildings up and out of the darkness. I wonder if he was thinking about constructivism. It makes me think about all the artists trying to figure things out through painting, and how they are in conversation with one another. We are left with the residue of an idea, and a feeling that we can almost grasp.
