Musical Forest 1961

Ruth Vollmer's "Musical Forest" (1961) presents a unique, abstract representation of a forest using an assemblage of found objects. The piece features a large, rounded, seemingly organic form with a textured surface, reminiscent of a tree trunk or a cave opening. From the interior of the form emerge multiple, slender, white-tipped objects, resembling trees. The assemblage of these objects in the bowl-like form creates a sense of a miniature forest within a container, exploring the relationship between nature and the man-made.
