This untitled piece is by Alevtyna Kakhidze, and it seems like it came into being through a rather direct process – black ink lines laid down on a white surface, maybe paper. I'm imagining Kakhidze with the pen in hand, almost like she’s thinking aloud. There are these figures, labeled and drawn with a kind of raw simplicity, and then text, maybe thoughts or observations jotted down. The figures are so open and vulnerable, kind of like doodles but filled with some sort of deep feeling. It reminds me of other artists who use drawing as a form of thinking, like Philip Guston or even Tracey Emin. It's like she’s using the act of drawing to try and understand something. This piece feels like a page from a diary, a raw, unfiltered expression of thought and feeling. And that's what makes it so compelling, this sense of immediacy and directness.
