Sa Nogueira made this image, "One," from I guess found images and perhaps paint, too, but I can only guess at when. It seems like a scene from a film, a still life built from the leavings of pop culture and surreal juxtapositions. One thing connects to the next and the next; they all seem to be related, but I am not sure how, and I don’t think I need to know. What I love is that Nogueira puts things together that don’t seem to belong. This is how we build ideas: one thing at a time. I imagine that Nogueira knew that each artist is always in dialogue with others, that art evolves through call and response across decades, even centuries. Perhaps you, too, will take this piece as an invitation to look at things anew!
