Zomer, een landschap met vissers 1601

Hendrick Hondius I's *Zomer, een landschap met vissers* (1601) is an etching that depicts a summer scene by a river, with a town in the background. The scene is filled with activity, with people fishing, boating, and walking along the riverbank. Hondius was a Dutch printmaker and publisher, known for his landscapes and cityscapes. The etching is now part of the collection of the Rijksmuseum. The inscription at the bottom of the print reads, "ESTAS dum prasens, fluuios, silupsy Fatzge. Car grass est Estes, buic bone foret hiems." This translates to "Summer, when present, rivers, silence bring forth. For grass is Summer, this good would be winter." This inscription speaks to the idea that summer is a time of peace and tranquility.
