Olivier Mosset made this painting called ‘Logo’, and right away, I'm thinking about the way simple shapes can play with our eyes. There is this octagonal shape sitting snug in a square canvas, and I'm wondering, is it more than just a shape? The way the black lines pop against that warm, golden ochre ground makes it feel solid, but at the same time, the colour and the symmetry give it a soft of hovering quality. Look at the way the black outline isn't quite perfect, how it wavers in spots. It gives the painting this little handmade imperfection. Mosset’s got this knack for making you rethink what painting can be. This reminds me a little of Bridget Riley's Op Art. All of this makes me think that art is really just one big, ongoing conversation, isn’t it?
