Marie Famularo made this watercolor of a Woman’s Bonnet, we’re not sure exactly when, but it’s like she’s tenderly documenting an object. Look at how she builds up the form with tiny, careful marks. There’s a real dedication to process here, a kind of meditative focus on the act of making. You can almost feel the texture of the bonnet, the way the light catches on those tiny details. And then there’s the ribbon, such a contrast to the rest of the piece. It’s fluid and soft, painted with a looseness that suggests movement and wear. It's a masterclass in seeing. I’m reminded of the work of Agnes Martin, in that there's a kind of quiet beauty in the repetition and the subtle variations of tone. It invites you to slow down, to really look, and to find something new each time. It’s a reminder that art doesn’t always need to shout to be heard.
