This 17th-century Dutch collage is a vibrant example of *trompe l'oeil*, where the artist creates the illusion of three-dimensional reality through the use of cut-out prints pasted onto a blue paper background. The composition is dominated by a central scene depicting two elegantly dressed figures in a park-like setting, surrounded by a framework of smaller images, including figures on horseback, botanical illustrations, and architectural details. Each element is meticulously arranged to create a sense of depth and movement, giving the illusion of a miniature, multi-faceted world. The Rijksmuseum houses this unique work, which showcases the skill and artistry of anonymous Dutch makers in the 16th and 17th centuries.
