This print, by Joan Miró, shows a fascination with the process, an approach rooted in the act of making. Look at the way Miró uses color, it's playful and intuitive. The texture is interesting, isn't it? The way the ink sits on the surface, not quite smooth, a little rough, which draws you in. The block-printed image has an incredible surface quality, that feels raw and immediate, like a direct connection to the artist's hand. Notice the little details, like the small sun and moon shapes in the middle of the rectangle, how they contrast with the bold, two-tone circle at the top of the piece, it feels like looking at the inside of his mind. Miró reminds me of Paul Klee, with that same playful simplicity. Ultimately, this piece is about embracing the unexpected, trusting the process, and finding joy in the ambiguity.
