Editor: We're looking at "Hansa Yellow 5-G," produced by Fezandie & Sperrle. It's simply a jar of pigment! What strikes me is how this raw material, usually hidden in the artistic process, is presented as the art itself. What do you make of this presentation? Curator: This challenges our conventional understanding. It directs our attention to the industrial production of art materials, questioning the romantic idea of the artist as the sole creator. How does this object, readily available for purchase, become art? Editor: It definitely makes you think about the labour and commercial aspects! I never considered the pigment itself as the subject. Curator: Exactly. And what of its journey? From factory to artist’s studio, to ultimately, the gallery. Food for thought! Editor: I'll certainly be thinking about that more.
