Editor: Here we have Victor Pasmore’s "Points of Contact No. 8," its date is unknown. It makes me think of a calm sea, but also feels very constructed. How do you interpret this work? Curator: This piece exemplifies a shift in Pasmore's practice towards a focus on materiality and process. Notice the interplay between the applied pigment and the bare support. Consider the artist's labor in layering these forms; it's not just about representation, but the very act of making. Editor: So, it’s less about what it depicts and more about how it was made? Curator: Precisely! How the materials are manipulated, how the surfaces interact—that's where the meaning resides. It's a break from traditional notions of art as pure aesthetic experience. Editor: I never thought about it that way before! It makes me appreciate the artist's technique much more.
