Joan Brull painted this landscape with what looks like oil on canvas, though I can’t be sure. I love how the whole scene seems to emerge from a haze. The paint application is quite thin, with soft, blended strokes, giving the trees and water a dreamlike quality. Look closely at the reflections in the water, they are not precise, but rather suggestive, like memories fading at the edges. It’s all about feeling, not about sharp lines or details. The muted colors add to this atmosphere, mostly grays and browns, hinting at a melancholic mood. I get a sense of calm and stillness here, like standing by the water on a quiet, overcast day. Brull’s approach reminds me of some of Corot’s landscapes, where the emphasis is on capturing a fleeting moment of light and atmosphere. It’s more about poetry than description. These artists are not trying to copy what’s there, but to create an echo of what’s felt.
