"Staande man met hoed" (Standing Man with Hat) is a c. 1882 charcoal drawing by Dutch artist George Hendrik Breitner (1857–1923) now in the Rijksmuseum collection. The drawing is a quick sketch of a man in a hat, seen from behind, in a seated pose. The loose lines and gestural marks are characteristic of Breitner's style, which is often described as impressionistic. The artist was known for his energetic and dynamic depictions of everyday life in Amsterdam. This sketch, despite its simplicity, captures a sense of movement and energy. The drawing, like many of Breitner’s works, is an example of his interest in capturing the fleeting moments of modern urban life.
