This beaded bag, or ‘Buidel’ was woven with a pattern of multicoloured flowers by the Wiener Werkstätte, sometime between 1903 and 1932. The colours and patterns are so lively. I love how the individual beads come together to create a field of texture, like impasto in a painting. Each tiny bead is placed with intention, and the overall effect is one of joyful abundance. Look at the way the flowers are arranged in rows, each one slightly different from the last. There's a sense of improvisation and playfulness that reminds me of my own approach to painting. I find myself drawn to the bottom of the bag, where the colours blend and merge into a riot of hues. It’s a reminder that art is an ongoing conversation, a constant exchange of ideas across time.
