Editor: Here we have an undated photograph by Iorwerth Grey Lloyd, titled "Untitled (Canterbury Cathedral with figure in foreground; verso: blank)." It's a black and white image that captures this magnificent cathedral, and there are some figures in the foreground. It feels very serene and a little melancholic to me. What do you see in this piece? Curator: It's a cathedral bathed in light, isn’t it? Almost levitating above the mundane world, with those tiny figures below, like fleeting thoughts. I wonder what the photographer was thinking, framing it this way, the sacred and the secular, the eternal and the ephemeral, caught in a single frame. Is it a longing for something beyond our grasp? Editor: That contrast is really striking. I hadn't thought of it that way, but I like that idea of longing. Curator: Photography, like memory, can be a bit like that, right? A beautiful, blurry echo of something that once was. Editor: Definitely gives me a lot to think about, thank you.
