Side View of the Temple 

Giovanni Battista Piranesi's "Side View of the Temple" is an etching of the ruins of a grand temple. This work is typical of the artist's "Vedute di Roma" series, which depicted the crumbling grandeur of ancient Roman architecture. Piranesi's etchings were incredibly detailed, showcasing the crumbling grandeur of ancient Roman ruins and capturing the sense of melancholy and decay that permeated the artist's work. Piranesi's etchings were hugely influential in the Romantic movement and have since become iconic representations of ancient Rome.
