Peter Hansen painted Badende Drenge. Fåborg Fjord with oil on canvas, but when is anyone’s guess. It’s really about process, isn't it? What I love about this piece is how Hansen builds it from the ground up, layering sandy beige and cool blues. Look at how the light bounces off the water, those soft brushstrokes creating ripples that feel almost tactile. There's a raw, honest quality to the paint application, a visible record of the artist's hand at work. It feels like he is observing rather than constructing. I’m drawn to the way Hansen captures the reflections of the bodies in the water, the way he plays with distortion and light, it’s as if the painting itself is submerged. The almost monochrome palette reminds me of Vilhelm Hammershoi, but with a summery glow. It invites you to linger, to imagine the sounds and smells of that day at the fjord, and to get lost in the simple pleasure of watching boys swim.
