Victor Vasarely created this head-spinning artwork using a restricted palette of black and white. I imagine Vasarely carefully planning out his compositions to create optical illusions. It’s like he's trying to trick the eye. You know? It's almost like a game, right? How can you make something flat look like it’s moving or has depth? The shapes seem to expand and contract, playing with our perception. It makes me think about other artists like Bridget Riley, who were also exploring similar ideas around the same time. There was something in the air, a shared interest in how we see and how we can be deceived, which is still relevant for artists today. Ultimately, this artwork is a reminder that art is never static. It’s always in motion, challenging us to look closer and question what we think we know.
