Gazmend Freitag's "Nude in bathroom 1," made in 2013, looks like it was drawn with some kind of brown ink. It is a drawing that lets the hand be the guide. The ink washes in this drawing feel really intimate, like they're whispering secrets about the body. You can almost feel the slippery tiles of the bathroom. The lines aren't precious; they're more like a map of the artist's looking. See that one long stroke defining the curve of the back? It’s so confident, like the artist just *knew* exactly where it needed to go. I am reminded of some of the drawings by Egon Schiele, who also had a very similar kind of raw energy. Both artists make you feel like you're seeing something vulnerable and real, not some airbrushed ideal. In art, the unexpected is often more interesting than perfection.
