Carl Moll painted Die Dr. Seipel-Straße in Mödling with quick, confident strokes of paint, a warm palette of yellows, pinks and greens. It feels sunny, doesn’t it? I wonder, did he set up his easel right there on the street? I can imagine him trying to capture the light as it filtered through the buildings, glancing off the cobblestones. Look at how he builds up the texture of the buildings, layer upon layer. It’s almost sculptural! Then, there are these little pops of color, like the deep red of the door on the right. It's so satisfying when an artist uses just the right color. The painting reminds me of other Impressionists who painted cityscapes like Camille Pissarro, but with an Austrian twist. It’s like they were all having this conversation across countries and time. The joy of painting is that it's always in dialogue with itself.
