This photograph, 'Korean Women in National Costume,' was taken by David Ketel sometime in the twentieth century. It's small, just five by five centimeters, but it speaks volumes about the world beyond its edges. I wonder about Ketel, and what caught his eye. Maybe he was drawn to the bold colors and the soft way the light falls across the women’s dresses. There’s a tenderness in the way they’re posed, almost like they're sharing a secret. They are standing very close to one another on the path, as if to hold each other up. The photo almost has the feeling of a painting. It reminds me that art isn’t just about what's on the surface, but about the stories and feelings that linger beneath. The landscape in the background seems to nod in agreement. It’s a reminder that we’re all connected, each of us adding our own voice to the ongoing conversation.
