This sepia-toned photograph captures fishing boats bobbing in the harbor of Concarneau. I love how, in a way, every photograph is a painting. Looking at this, I imagine Delizy, the artist, patiently composing the scene through the lens. There’s a stillness to it, but also a sense of movement in the water, which is very painterly. The masts and rigging form a network of lines against the sky. You have to wonder what the light was like that day, how the air felt. It's like they're in dialogue with Manet or Whistler, all those artists who were obsessed with capturing fleeting moments and atmospheric effects. Artists are always inspiring each other across time, participating in an ongoing exchange of ideas, and this photograph is a testament to that creative conversation. It's an interesting way of thinking and experiencing the world.
