Luis Feito made this untitled painting with sweeping gestures of black and white paint. I can almost feel the artist’s hand moving across the canvas, pushing and pulling the paint, building up layers of dark and light. Imagine Feito standing here, maybe lost in thought, maybe totally free, responding to the canvas with each stroke. The thick black paint sits heavy on the surface, contrasting with the thin washes of grey that seem to float in the background. That big, bold stroke across the top – it feels so decisive, so full of energy. And then these smaller marks down below, like they're searching for something. You can see a conversation happening between the different parts of the painting, a back-and-forth between control and chance. Feito’s work reminds me of other painters like Franz Kline, who were also exploring the power of black and white abstraction. It's like they were all talking to each other across time and space, each adding their own voice to the conversation. Painting is an ongoing exchange of ideas, each artist building on what came before, pushing the boundaries of what's possible.
