Lech Jankowski’s "Untitled" piece, made with graphite on paper, throws you into a world of shadows and stark contrasts. The grays are smudged and layered, giving it this raw, almost dreamlike quality. You can tell Jankowski wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty, really digging into the material. Check out the way the graphite clings to the page, especially in the background, it almost feels like you could reach out and touch it. The figure itself seems caught in a moment of transformation, wings sprouting from its back, but pinned to the floor of the scene. This tension reminds me of Goya, a similar mood of dark fantasy mixed with brutal realism. Ultimately, Jankowski's piece is a reminder that art doesn't always have to be pretty. Sometimes, the most powerful stuff comes from the messy, uncomfortable parts of life.
