"Straat gezien door een poort," a charcoal sketch by Dutch painter Jozef Israëls, is a study of a street viewed through a gate. The rough, gestural lines and dark tones create a sense of atmospheric depth and an intriguing glimpse into the street scene. The drawing was completed sometime between 1834 and 1911, and is currently part of the collection of the Rijksmuseum.
