Alfred Freddy Krupa made this painting, ‘Dubovac from a nearby orchard’ with oils on canvas. Look at these luscious brushstrokes of browns and greens and blues. The paint is thick, so you can really get a sense of its texture. I can imagine Krupa outside, in the orchard, trying to capture this fortress, this building, which he has grounded into the landscape through colour. It is kind of an evocative dance between observation and interpretation – what to leave in, what to leave out. How to get the vibe of the place? I can feel the push and pull. It makes me think about Van Gogh, or even Cezanne. What does it mean to translate what we see and feel onto the canvas? It's like these painters are all having this eternal dialogue, across the ages. They're grappling with seeing, feeling, and expressing. Each painting is an attempt, a question, and an answer all at once.
