This Kesrowan, with its symmetrical burgundy field, bordered by geometric patterns, was woven by an anonymous artist, and I can imagine them carefully plotting the design. Maybe they used a loom? I have never tried weaving, but it seems like it requires an incredible amount of planning and attention. I love the way the linear motifs contrast with the soft fabric. The artist would have had to work with the materials to create the pattern while also considering the drape and flow of the cloth. The fringe is a lovely touch too. It reminds me of some of the geometric patterns found in textiles from around the world. There’s something so satisfying about the repetition and precision. Even though the artist is unknown, their handiwork speaks volumes, inviting us to appreciate the beauty and skill of textile art. I wonder what the weaver would make of my paintings! Artists, eh, always learning from each other.
