Jakob Weidemann made this painting called Skogbunn with big, earthy colors, lots of browns, and those little hints of green, like moss on rocks. I can imagine him, working away, trying to build up a landscape from chunks of color. It’s kind of cool to think about what he was thinking, right? Like, did he have a place in mind, or was he just feeling his way through it? The paint looks pretty thick in places, all textured, which makes me think he was really digging in, you know, working it, almost like he was sculpting with the paint. I love the way he lets these colors bump up against each other without really blending them. There’s this gray square that sits so nicely with the reds and browns, such a solid, steadying influence on the earthier tones. Weidemann was doing his own thing, but he's also part of this whole conversation that’s been going on between painters for ages. It's like everyone is riffing off each other, pushing things a little further, and keeping the whole thing alive.
