Jakob Weidemann made this earthy painting, called Skogbunn, which means forest floor, with oil paint. It's got this fantastic, almost clumsy way of layering colors, like he's just piling them on top of each other to see what happens. The texture in this piece really grabs me; you can almost feel the grit of the forest floor under your fingers. He's used these thick daubs of paint, creating a surface that's anything but smooth. There's a square of grey in the top left corner that keeps drawing my eye; it's like a little window into another world, or maybe just a moment of calm amidst all that earthy chaos. Weidemann reminds me of Milton Resnick, in the way he fearlessly throws paint around, letting the process guide the final outcome. I think that art isn't about having all the answers, it's about embracing the questions and seeing where they lead.
