This round, white relief sculpture by Austrian artist Josef Löwy depicts the mythical battle of the Lapiths and Centaurs. The artwork, created in 1878, was shown at the World's Fair in Paris, France, and is likely modeled after an earlier work by Joseph Tautenhayn. The central, circular area of the sculpture is a representation of the goddess Athena, the patron goddess of the city of Athens, where the Lapiths are from. This sculpture, though lost today, is documented in an 1878 photograph by the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe, Hamburg.
