Editor: This untitled print by Victor Pasmore presents a swirling cloud of lines atop a simple stem and base. It's minimalist, but also quite intricate. What do you make of the materials and process here? Curator: Consider the paper itself, its sourcing and manufacture. The ink, a product of industrial chemistry. The labour involved in its creation, from Pasmore's hand to the printing process. Are these materials commenting on the shift in artistic production during this time? Editor: So, the seemingly simple form actually reflects a complex relationship with industry? I hadn't considered that. Curator: Exactly! It invites us to rethink the value we place on traditional artistic skill versus the contributions of industrial processes to art-making. Perhaps Pasmore is asking if mass production can also yield beauty.
