This fashion plate, *Le Style Parisien*, probably made as a print, stages three figures against a loosely-defined landscape. I see the artist thinking through a limited palette: black, white, lilac grey. Imagine the artist carefully inking each flat shape, printing layer upon layer. The overall effect is muted, subtle, with a slight, vintage feel. I'm curious what it was like to create these tonal shifts in the printmaking process. The artist uses line economically to define the contours of the figures. I am interested in the bold graphic element that the swan introduces, and the tension between the swan, and the stylized women. These choices resonate with similar questions other artists were exploring at the time, like Hannah Höch and other collage artists, in their own way asking about how to bring disparate elements together. This print participates in a broader conversation. Each artwork offers a unique perspective.
