Bas sad 2010

Dragan Ilić Di Vogo created this painting, called 'Bas sad', at an unknown date, using delicate brushstrokes in earthy hues. Look at the way the face of the huge bust looms in the background; it’s almost as though the small figure in the foreground is contemplating history itself. And this giant head? It’s broken; missing a chunk. I wonder if the artist felt like a piece was missing, too, as they were composing this image? There is a strong sense of realism in this painting. The colors are a tad muted which gives it this somber, almost nostalgic, quality. I wonder if Dragan had other works that were similar? It looks like a story, and I wonder what the story is? It reminds me of some surrealist painters I've seen who painted with really high detail like this.
